This weekend Unimates will be holding a trip to Cockatoo Island. As mentioned in the weekly newsletter Cockatoo Island is the largest island in Sydney Harbour. Located at the junction of the Parramatta and Lane Cove rivers, Cockatoo Island is a former imperial prison, industrial school, reformatory and gaol. It is also the site of one of Australia’s biggest shipyards during the twentieth century.
A walk around the lower and upper island takes about 80 minutes. Highlights include immense workshops in the industrial precinct, the two dry docks and a soundscape in the dogleg tunnel, in addition to the convict mess hall and courtyard.
Aslo, great views of the harbour and city skyline are not to be missed.
The event schedule includes a walk around the island and lunch (at own expense). The event will then finish around 2pm.
